About this image

It doesnt matter how you spell Macao, it only matters that you experience it. Macao is the only area of China that allows casino gambling. Think about it. One billion Chinese, a culture that loves to gamble, and an economy growing at 10% per year. Where is the only place with legalized casinos in China - Macao.

For years and years, one man, Stanley Ho had a monopoly on gambling in Macao. Since their was no competition for him, he did not reinvest much money back into his casinos or hotels, so they became run-down, smokey, and out of date.

Then, about five years ago, the Macao government decided to open up the gambling industry, and handed out licenses to some of the world's largest casino companies that allowed them to build more casinos. At the same time, the government started to reclaim land from a swampy area of the country between Taipa and Coloane Islands in Macao. The newly reclaimed land was called Cotai, and was planned to be the home to billions of dollars of hotel and casino investments. One company, Las Vegas Sands, is even building 20,000 hotel rooms across many different hotels and casinos, and is calling the area - The Cotai Strip.

Hotels

Macao currently has 10,000 hotel rooms and dozense of hotels, and in just a few years, the number of hotel rooms will increase to 40,000. For a list of the older hotels, visit Macao Tourism. Casinos

In case you've never been to Macao or an Asian casino, prepare yourself for a different type of gambling experience. In Macao, one of the first things that you will notice is that there are table games everywhere, and not a whole lot of slot machines. And when you take a closer look at the tables, you will notice that they are not blackjack, or poker games, but baccarat tables.
