Online Marketing -- What is it?
I think we know what 'Online' means: email, web and mobile -- even TV and Radio fall under the realm of Online, as long as they are connected to the Internet.
Marketing is a bit more elusive term, so let's try to define it.
- Definition 1: "Marketing is the core business philosophy which directs the processes of identifying and fulfilling the needs of individuals and organizations through exchanges which create superior value for all parties". Yawn
- Definition 2: "Marketing is the process of planning and executing the conception, pricing, promotion, and distribution of ideas, goods, services, organizations, and events to create and maintain relationships that will satisfy individual and organizational objectives." Better, but still Yawn
- Definition 3: "Marketing is getting and keeping customers" Ding!!
Getting and Keeping Customers. But 'Wait' you say, Sales gets customers, Support keeps customers. No, no, no. Marketing gets and keeps customers; Sales, Support and the rest simply execute the Marketing strategy for doing so.
So let's combine the definitions of the two words in question: 'Online' and 'Marketing' into an answer to the original question of 'What is Online Marketing?':
Online Marketing is Getting and Keeping Customers Though the Internet
