Through the use of high resolution and digital enhancing, Bob Winans, the oldest son of Fonville Winans, is once again making available those famous pictures as prints taken by his father. Bob Winans worked very closely with his father during Fonville Winans’ last 20 years.

   Theodore "Fonville" Winans was born in Mexico, Missouri, in 1911. He grew up in Ft. Worth, Texas. He moved to south Louisiana in 1928 when his father worked in construction. Fonville died in 1992.

 

   Fonville Winans was known for photographing bayou landscapes, people and Cajun culture in Louisiana from 1929 - 1941. Fonville had a portrait studio in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, from 1941-1991.
