MillionDollarWiki.com
Your $100 could go a long way on the Million Dollar Wiki; it has consistently been growing and has early signs of exponential growth. The following suggestions poke at the very things some owners have done right to maximize their exposure on the site.
There are five spots new and returning viewers can click to land on your page; the search, most popular results, random button, index and the main page.
You don’t have control over the random button. The word/words you select for your page will have a great effect on visitors finding you through the search or index - but after you chose your page, you have no more effect over that. The two biggest ways to improve the chances for visitors to land on your page (within the site) are getting high on the ‘Most Popular’ list and getting a spot on the main page.
POPULARITY
This concept is very simple; The more hits your page gets, the higher you appear.
You are at a great advantage joining the site before it takes off. Not only did you have a chance to secure the better pages, but you also have a head start to get hits and climb the list. The business page has a distinct lead that will enable it to sustain its position. It probably gets clicks just from being number one, which only allows the page to build its gap even bigger.
You can climb popularity by getting traffic from in and outside of the site. I will focus on ways to increase the flow of MDW’s visitors to your page because my blog usually discusses strategies to drive traffic to your website anyway.
THE HOT SPOTS
When you first enter the site, there are 4 headliners and 9 icons that grab your attention. These spots intrigue some visitors, and filling these spots should be easier now then after the MDW grows. The following are the trends I’ve picked up on that seemed to help the page owners get onto these spots.
1) Visuals are Important. Look at the 4 headliners, notice how they use their page. Most blend into the gray theme of the site, have some appealing graphics and/or header and are very organized. They tend to manipulate their page using HTML, receiving more control over their canvas. Take the design and music pages for example - they use flash and are very attractive.
2) Content is King. There is no chance a page without content will take one of these spots. Letters to Business is entertaining. Make money online is very beneficial to those looking to do just that.
3) Updating Improves your Rating. It’s true, most of these pages seem to avoid static content. Campus Cuties launches a new contest every two days. and blogs stand a great chance; TechJuicer stays current using his blog feed.
4) Tools get the job done. If your page has a useful application, you can land a spot. Credit Cards and Video Classifieds scream useful. The forum is the one tool on this site that connects you to all the page owners (and did I mention how great of a resource it is to get feedback along with tips to improve your page).
LAST FEW SUGGESTIONS TO IMPROVE YOUR AESTHETICS
- A page’s width is 667 pixels - if your go over that dimension the page starts to expand and ruin the borders. On the opposite side of the spectrum, if your content is less than 667, it can seem, well… lopsided if not centered.
- If you use HTML, be sure to get rid of the margins, or you will have only a 647 pixel width. If you do not set the margins, it is automatically set to 10 pixels above, below, right and left. Here’s the code, you need to place this right after <head/>
<body topmargin=”0″ leftmargin=”0″ rightmargin=”0″ bottommargin=”0″ marginwidth=”0″ marginheight=”0″>
- The gray uses the hexadecimal #F7F7F7 or the RGB values of 247, 247, 247. Use the gray to fit into the page scheme.
- Your page title isn’t very obvious, so make sure you let new visitors know exactly what they will find on your page with a nice header or phrase.
